What is an Annulment?

An annulment is a legal procedure that declares a marriage never existed. This differs from divorce which ends a marriage. A marriage can only be annulled when the law considers the marriage voidable or void.

Voidable Marriage

A voidable marriage is a marriage that can be canceled if one of the parties chooses.

Void Marriage

A void marriage is a marriage that is prohibited, because it is not considered lawful. Some examples of a void marriage could be incestuous marriages, a pre-existing marriage, underage marriage, fraud, etc.
